FAQ

Can it be used for dogs?

Yes, small to medium sized dogs that meet the criteria below are good candidates for the wrap.

1. Weight: Dogs under 20 pounds are generally the most compatible, however, the weight limit for our largest wrap is 30 pounds. Dogs under 12 pounds are typically the easiest to work with in the wrap.

2. Body length & proportions: The length of your dog’s back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail should be 20 inches or less. Dogs with long, slender legs (for example, Italian Greyhounds) can be more difficult to wrap because their posture is similar to larger dog breeds.

Here are some breeds the wrap is commonly used on. Use these breeds as a reference for proportions when deciding if your dog is a good fit:

  • Yorkshire Terrier
  • Chihuahua
  • Toy/Mini Poodle
  • Maltese
  • Mini Doodle
  • Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
  • Dachshund

Refer to our sizing guide for instructions on how to measure your dog and enter those measurements into our sizing calculator.

Do you make XL wraps for big dogs?

Unfortunately, we do not offer XL sizes. This is because our wraps are designed specifically for cats and small dogs, whose natural crouched posture allows for effective swaddling.

Conversely, larger dogs do not crouch – instead, they tend to extend their front legs, which prevents the wrap from applying gentle, even pressure. Without that snug fit, the wrap can’t provide the same calming effect and could actually increase anxiety. For this reason, we don’t offer XL sizes.

Do you ship internationally?

We offer direct shipping to the US, Canada, and Australia, but you can receive international shipments through a parcel forwarding service. Click here to learn more.

Please click here for instructions.

Are they returnable?

Yes, you have 7 days from the date of delivery to start a return for any reason. Just email us at support@calmcozycat.com to get started.

Please note that return shipping and an 8% restocking fee apply. These amounts will be deducted from your refund once the wrap is received. Because the Calm & Cozy Cat Wrap is considered a veterinary tool, we can’t resell wraps that have been used on an animal for health and safety reasons. These fees help offset this loss when a wrap is returned.

After your return label is issued, you’ll have 1 week to send your wrap back (based on the tracking date). Returns mailed after that window can’t be accepted. The only exceptions are for manufacturer defects, which we’ll happily replace or refund.

What can I use the wrap for as a pet owner?

The wrap is designed to make everyday care safer and less stressful for both you and your cat. Pet owners commonly use it for:

  • Nail trims
  • Brushing teeth
  • Giving medication (oral, ocular, aural)
  • Insulin shots
  • Subcutaneous fluids
  • Checking blood sugar
  • Topical parasite preventatives
  • Vet visits

What can I use the wrap for as a veterinary professional?

Because it was originally designed for clinical use, the wrap offers even more functionality for veterinary teams. It supports all the same at-home uses listed above, plus additional procedures such as:

  • Exams & vitals
  • Blood draws: jugular, cephalic, medial saphenous
  • Vaccines & injections: low on leg or interscapular area
  • Ultrasounds: cardiac (echocardiograms) and abdominal/bladder via ventral zipper
  • Blood pressure: tail or any leg
    CT scans
  • Catheter placement
  • Minor wound care
  • Dermatologic care: ear exams, skin scrapes, or restraint for local anesthetic and punch biopsy

What other animals can use the wrap?

The wrap is designed specifically for cats, but love it on small dogs and we’ve received great feedback and adorable photos from pet owners, veterinary teams, and wildlife rehabilitators who have successfully used it on a variety of small animals, including chickens, ducks, bunnies, baby goats, and even raccoons!

Can I access my cat’s hind end to trim the fur (i.e. a sanitary clip)?

Yes, you can do this with the Pro version of the Calm & Cozy Cat Wrap, which has a 2-way zipper to access the hind end. If your cat is borderline for sizing and this is your primary use case, we recommend sizing up so there is more room for hind end access.

What if my pet doesn’t like the wrap?

The swaddling feature of the wrap is designed to provide a calming effect, though this may not work for every pet. Even if your pet squirms or resists at first, the wrap still offers gentle restraint so you can safely and effectively complete their care routine.

To help hesitant pets adjust, try pairing the wrap with positive experiences like treats, praise, or playtime. Over time, they’ll develop positive associations with the wrap.

“This would never work on MY cat!”

We hear this all the time – and we get it! But as veterinary professionals who use the wrap every day, we know it can work for a wide range of temperaments, even the spiciest ones.

Some cats may need more time to adjust, and occasionally a second set of hands makes the first few tries easier. The key is to work confidently and efficiently: the quicker you get the wrap secured (you can tidy the closure afterward), the sooner your cat learns that this isn’t scary.

With a little practice and positive reinforcement, most cats become much more tolerant of handling. This pays off long-term when you need to give medication, trim nails, or help your cat stay healthy and stress-free during care.

How do I wash it?

Unless soiled or being used on other cats, the wrap does not need to be washed after each use.

  1. Machine wash your wrap separately or use a mesh wash bag to prevent velcro from attaching to finer fabrics.
  2. Make sure all velcro is closed to avoid fabric twisting or stitching breakdown.
  3. Air dry or tumble dry on low heat to prevent shrinkage.

Pro Tip: Turn your wrap inside out to properly clean the areas that are more likely to be soiled.

Why are they so expensive?

environment, and ethics. We use premium materials to ensure durability and comfort, and we carefully select manufacturers who uphold ethical working conditions. Additionally, the numerous access points make the cutting and stitching process complex, requiring a high level of precision and skilled manufacturing. As demand grows, we plan to scale production and order in bulk, which will allow us to lower costs in the future.

Can I take my cat to the vet IN the swaddle?

Yes – many cats remain calmer when they arrive at the vet pre-swaddled rather than in a carrier. However, a swaddled cat must always be held securely in someone’s arms or lap and should never be placed loose on a seat or inside a carrier while wrapped. Because you can’t safely hold your cat while driving, pre-swaddled transport is only appropriate if another person is traveling with you to hold the cat the entire time.

Make sure the wrap is secure so your cat cannot slip out, especially when exiting the car and walking into the clinic. While most swaddled cats arrive more relaxed than those confined in carriers, we still recommend bringing a carrier with you as a backup option.

My cat won’t let me pick her up. Will this still be helpful?

We hear this concern a lot, and you’re definitely not alone! While we’d love it if cats would voluntarily swaddle themselves, they do need to be picked up and held in order to use the wrap.

If your cat currently won’t allow any lifting or handling, the wrap won’t be useful yet. The first step is helping your cat become more comfortable being picked up in general. Your veterinarian can offer guidance and support, which may include strategies or calming aids to help reduce anxiety around handling.

With slow practice, positive associations, and consistency, many cats become more tolerant of gentle handling over time. Once your cat is comfortable being picked up, the wrap can then become a very helpful tool for care.

I’m a veterinary professional. Do I get a discount?

Individual wraps are priced the same for everyone, including veterinary professionals. For clinics purchasing multiple units, we offer discounted bundles with sizes that cover the most common feline and small-dog use cases.

For clinics, the wrap should be treated like standard equipment. It supports safer handling, reduces procedure time for many routine tasks, and can improve staff and patient experience. As with other tools your team relies on, the cost belongs in normal clinic budgeting.

Can I purchase the wraps wholesale?

Yes, please click here to apply for a wholesale account.

My zipper is broken! Or is it?

The pro version has a 2-way zipper that can open all the way up at the neck.  If this happens, please watch this video and zip it back toward the hind end like you would a jacket.

Is it indestructible?

No fabric product is completely indestructible – especially when cats are involved. The Calm & Cozy Cat Wrap is designed to strike the right balance: strong enough to provide protection and stability while still being soft, flexible, and comfortable for your cat. A heavier, more rigid material might resist claws longer, but it would also increase stress and could make handling more difficult.

The Calm & Cozy Cat Wrap is a protective tool, not permanent equipment. With proper care and routine inspection, the wrap will withstand regular use for a long time. However, like any product exposed to claws and tension, it will eventually show wear and need replacement – particularly in clinical settings where it’s used several times a day. Cat owners using the wrap occasionally are less likely to see the same level of wear.

Am I protected from being scratched and bitten?

The wrap is designed to significantly reduce movement, making scratching and biting much less likely. When applied correctly, it keeps paws contained and limits head mobility so reactions become more predictable and easier to avoid.

However, no restraint method can completely eliminate risk. A determined cat may still find a way to scratch or nip, though the wrap makes it harder to reach exposed skin. If you have a known biter or a particularly reactive cat, we recommend adding extra precautions, such as an e-collar or a placing a towel over the head for an additional barrier.
